Below, you’ll find honest answers to the most common questions I’m asked about HypnoCBT®—what it is, how it works, and what you can expect. My aim is to help you feel informed, reassured, and ready to take that next step, if and when you’re ready.

1. What is HypnoCBT®?

HypnoCBT® is an integrative approach that combines cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques with clinical hypnotherapy. It’s a powerful, evidence-based method that helps you understand and change unhelpful thoughts, behaviours, and emotional responses—while using hypnosis to strengthen these changes at a deeper level.

2. How is HypnoCBT® different from regular CBT or hypnotherapy?

HypnoCBT® blends the structured, goal-oriented nature of CBT with the subconscious reprogramming power of hypnosis. While CBT helps you consciously challenge and change thought patterns, hypnotherapy enhances emotional engagement and accelerates behavioural change by working with the unconscious mind.

3. Is HypnoCBT® safe?

Yes. HypnoCBT® is a safe, ethical, and professional approach. You are always in control during sessions. Hypnosis is a natural, focused state of attention—not mind control or sleep. I will make sure that it is a suitable approach for you as part of our initial consultation and if HypnoCBT® is contraindicated for any reason, I’ll point you in a more appropriate direction for the support that you need.

4. What kinds of issues can HypnoCBT® help with?

HypnoCBT® is effective for a wide range of issues, including:

5. What happens in a typical session?

Sessions often begin with a conversation to understand your goals and challenges. We may use CBT tools like thought records or behavioural experiments, followed by a guided hypnotherapy session tailored to reinforce change. You’ll usually leave with tools, exercises, or recordings to continue the work between sessions.

6. Will I lose control or reveal secrets under hypnosis?

No. Hypnosis is not mind control. You remain aware, in control, and able to speak, move, or even choose not to continue at any time. It’s more like a guided meditation or a state of relaxed focus.

7. How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your goals and how long you’ve been experiencing the issue. Some people notice changes in just a 2-3 sessions, while deeper or more complex challenges may take longer. Typically, clients work with me for 4–8 sessions, but this is always tailored to you.

8. Can I be hypnotised?

Most people can enter a light to medium hypnotic state, especially with practice and the right environment. You don’t have to feel “hypnotised” for it to work—the real power is in the suggestions and your engagement with them.

9. Do you offer online sessions?

Yes! HypnoCBT® works very well online. All you need is a quiet space, a reliable internet connection, and a comfortable chair or sofa.

10. Is HypnoCBT® suitable for everyone?

It’s suitable for most people, but it’s not a replacement for medical or psychiatric care. If you have a history of psychosis, severe dissociative disorders, or are under psychiatric treatment, we’ll need to discuss suitability first.

11. What can I expect to feel during hypnosis?

People describe feeling deeply relaxed, focused, or slightly detached from their surroundings—like being absorbed in a good book or movie. You’ll still hear everything and remember most of the session.

12. Do you provide resources between sessions?

Yes, I often provide MP3 recordings, worksheets, or journaling prompts to support your progress between sessions. These help embed new habits and thinking patterns more effectively.
